Doyle Brunson pleit net als Daniel Negreanu voor een ‘shot clock’ in pokertoernooien. Spelers nemen veel te veel tijd en dat is verschrikkelijk saai en slecht voor televisie-uitzendingen, vindt Brunson. De levende pokerlegende vindt het ook een goede zaak dat er een wapenstilstand is in het Midden-Oosten. Verder is ‘Texas Dolly’ druk bezig met het omruilen van dollars voor goud om zijn fortuin te beschermen.
Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu voerde de WSOP Main Event finaletafel aan als bewijsmateriaal dat een ‘shot clock’ nodig is in het poker. Toen duurde het elf uur voordat de laatste drie spelers tot een winnaar waren gekomen. Negreanu had het er onlangs weer over in één van zijn ‘video rants’. ‘KidPoker’ krijgt nu bijval van Doyle Brunson.

Hij schreef in zijn gisteren verschenen blog het niet vaak met Negreanu eens te zijn, maar deze keer wel: “At least we agree that something has to be done about the slow play in the poker tournaments. It makes almost unwatchable TV and is very boring. A shot clock is the answer and the only question is how long can a player wait before he acts?”
Hoeveel tijd geef je iemand in de denktank is de hamvraag. Volgens Brunson is één minuutje meer dan genoeg, maar korter mag ook: “We had a tourney in Lake Tahoe that had a 20 second clock and it was the most fun I’ve ever had in a tournament.” Nu deze twee pokergrootheden pleiten voor een ‘shot clock’ zullen de grote toernooiorganisatoren dit punt zeker gaan bespreken, verwachten wij.
Staakt het vuren
De 79-jarige Brunson houdt zich met nog meer zaken bezig dan de pokerwereld. Zo lazen we dat hij de situatie in het Midden-Oosten op de voet volgt: “I was so glad to see the cease fire agreement in the Middle East. I hope America backs Israel 100% because after Canada and Great Britain they are our strongest ally. Looking at a map of that region, Israel is such a small country, it’s hard to see how they can survive in such a hostile atmosphere but they are going to cause all out war if the Arab states don’t back off.”
All that glitters is gold
Onheilspellende woorden van Brunson, die ondertussen druk bezig is zijn eigen fortuin van de ondergang te redden. “It looks like with our economy in such bad shape, the dollar is going to continue to fall. I’m taking all my spare money and buying gold and silver as a hedge against inflation. It may not help but I don’t believe the government can print enough money to get us out of this financial trouble we are in. America is very resilient so I hope I’m wrong.”
