Bij de Global Poker Awards werd Joe Ingram zoals wel verwacht één van de grote winnaars. De contentmaker pakte de trofee in de categorieën ‘journalist van het jaar’ en ‘video media content van het jaar’. Ingram dook vol in het Mike Postle-schandaal, hing dat aan de grote klok en werd daarvoor terecht ruimschoots beloond. De Nederlander Lex Veldhuis ging back-to-back als streamer van het jaar en pakte dus weer een trofee mee!
De PokerGO Studio was vrijdagavond het decor voor de grote sterren van de pokerwereld in Las Vegas in het Aria Resort & Casino, die bijeenkwamen voor de tweede jaarlijkse Global Poker Awards. De avond begon met het pokerkrachtkoppel Kristen Bicknell en Alex Foxen die voor het tweede jaar op rij Global Poker Index (GPI) Players of the Year ontvingen. Bicknell claimt voor de derde keer op rij de Female PoY.
Dit jaar waren er veel back-to-back prijswinnaars. Bicknell en Foxen sloten zich aan bij Lex Veldhuis voor Streamer, Andrew Neeme voor Vlogger en RUNGOOD Poker Series voor Mid-Major Tour / Circuit. Drew Amato ontving ook voor het tweede opeenvolgende jaar een prijs voor zijn expertise in fotografie.
Voor 2019 werden vijf nieuwe prijzen geïntroduceerd. Jamie Kerstetter was de eerste winnaar die de Twitter Personality Award mee naar huis nam en Stehpen Chidwick werd door zijn leeftijdsgenoten verkozen tot de sterkste tegenstander. Ryan Riess werd de inaugurele winnaar van Hand van het Jaar voor zijn tien-hoge all-call bij EPT Monte Carlo en Media Content of the Year was verdeeld in drie categorieën; Geschreven, foto en video.

Joey Ingram was de enige persoon die meerdere prijzen voor zijn inspanningen in 2019 verzamelde. Ingram werd door zijn collega’s verkozen tot journalist van het jaar en ontving ook een Media Content-prijs voor video.

Er waren twee legendes van de wedstrijd die vrijdagavond werden geëerd. Ter vervanging van de Lifetime Achievement-prijs ontving Johnny Chan de eerste Poker ICON-prijs van Mori Eskandani en GPI / THM’s eigen Roland Boothby reikte de Hendon Mob-prijs uit aan “Miami John” Cernuto omdat hij de eerste speler was die 500 resultaten behaalde.
