Tom ‘durrrr’ Dwan geeft antwoord

Afgelopen nacht heeft Tom ‘durrrr’ Dwan eindelijk het stilzwijgen doorbroken. In een Q&A-thread op TwoPlusTwo beantwoorde Dwan vragen over onder meer Full Tilt, in hoeverre hij er zelf bij betrokken was alsmede een hoop andere dingen. Dwan: “I think there was just one big mistake in late 2010, and then a slew of other mistakes not owning up to the 1st.”
 
Het jongste lid van Team Full Tilt Poker kon vannacht op TwoPlusTwo eindelijk antwoord geven op een aantal vragen. In de introductie van de thread geeft Dwan aan dat hij onderdeel was van een NDA (non-disclosure agreement), omdat vrienden van hem overwogen Full Tilt te kopen. Alhoewel hij eigenlijk geen onderdeel van de NDA wilde zijn kwam hij er toch op.“much to my dismay i was included on my friends nda without being personally liable. normally nda’s aren’t enforceable, but seeing as i was paid a bunch by ftp/ member of team ftp etc. it wasn’t fair for me to risk a huge amount of my friends $$ on this.” Durrrr kon hierdoor niet praten over, zoals hij het zelf noemt, “the elephant in the room.”

Tekort spelersbalans
De olifant waar Dwan het over heeft is het crediteren van de accounts van Amerikaanse spelers, zonder dat het geld van de rekeningen afgehaald kon worden. Dankzij UIGEA werd het voor Full Tilt lastiger om geld van de rekeningen van Amerikaanse spelers af te halen. In feite speelden hierdoor veel spelers op Full Tilt met geleend geld, waardoor een fors tekort op de spelersbalans ontstond. Dit probleem ontstond eind 2010 en bleef doorgaan tot en met Black Friday. Het bedrag dat Full Tilt door het niet kunnen incasseren van het geld misliep wordt op zo’n $120 tot $160 miljoen geschat. Ook kwam na Black Friday aan het licht dat de spelerstegoeden niet gescheiden waren van de rest.

Dwan wist hier in ieder geval niks vanaf, en beantwoordde vragen hierover in typical durrrr-fashion: “i mean cmon, would i be doing this thread if i was knowingly getting paid with player deposits instead of sitting in costa rica w/ a buncha blow? obviously that would’ve made me feel terrible and i wouldve insta-quit ftp and gone whistleblower if they didnt shut down at least us deposits had i found out about a gaping player fund hole pre black-fri.”

Noah Stephens-Davidowitz, journalist van Subject: Poker, vroeg zich in ieder geval af waar de rest van het geld gebleven was: “The DOJ says that FTP owed players $390M in March but only had $60M on hand. I would guess that the shortfall was in the $140Mish range at that time, though I don’t know for sure. That still leaves $190M unaccounted for. Note that this is before the 4/15 seizures. Where dit that money go?”

Dwan kon hier niet echt een goed antwoord op geven: “thought it was the shortfall all along. i think the seizures (and voluntary ones in europe) were another decent amount. im really curious where u heard the 140 as i was always led to believe it was more. i think a bunch was siezed but still not 190.“

Dwan gaat gedupeerde spelers uitbetalen
Dwan heeft in een eerder stadium al toegezegd al het geld dat hij van Full Tilt ontvangen heeft uit te betalen aan gedupeerde spelers. Hij vermoed dat het bedrag dat hij ter beschikking stelt goed is om 5% van de gedupeerde accounts 10 cent per dollar uit te betalen. Het exacte bedrag is niet bekend, maar het gaat om een bedrag boven een miljoen dollar.

Tevens hoopt hij dat meer Full Tilt Red Pro’s zijn voorbeeld gaan volgen: “i do think that players who were getting 200k a year extra for wearing patches and very little work, while still having enough money to live on, should give some % of the money they made back. especially so because they were all some non-zero % to sniff out the shortfall in player funds.”

“i definitely don’t trust howard, just like i wouldn’t anyone in the position hes in. i question everything he tells me- but so far i’ve found he hasn’t outright lied to me once. he might’ve danced around a few questions and definitely told a few half truths, but no outright lies.

im still very unhappy with a ton of his actions, and am very disappointed (i took my dad to meet him since my dad was in vegas and i had to pickup uniforms n stuff from howard before the uso tour we went on apr 8-14 and didnt really have a bad thing to say about the guy other than him being a nit). ive thought of this a few times and it makes me feel pretty sick every time.

That said i know he feels super terrible that all this happened, but that only means so much.

Dwan liet ook weten dat Lederer de enige van het management was met wie hij contact gehad heeft na Black Friday en dat hij daarom hem meer vertrouwt dan de rest, alsmede de kans dat hij schoon is hoger inschat dan de meeste denken. Het doet in ieder geval vermoeden dat Full Tilt Poker eerder ten onder is gegaan aan gigantisch mismanagement en graaizucht, dan dat het een bewuste scam geweest is.

Al met al is de bodem van de Full Tilt Poker-beerput nog lang niet in zicht. Dwan heeft in ieder geval nog een goede opmerking die eigenlijk de hele situatie in één zin opsomt: “its just such a joke that they fkd off a business which should’ve been worth 500m right now. so many disgusting areas of mismanagement and lack of oversight.”
